    Hi Angus.

I have been asked the question, how much would a laser like the one described in the paper below cost? So I thought of you, a ball-park estimate would be fine if you can do it. I suspect it's a very expensive piece of kit.

It's an NdYAG 532nM Laser delivering 0.2J in 5 ns pulses at a frequency of 10Hz.

  1.
So you think that if Leif Holmlid was using a really, really expensive laser for his whackadoo studies, it must be real science?

No. I have been asked the question and wish to answer it. Do you think if your arse was red it would smell like a rose?

Looks like you can get a Q-switched Nd-YAG with those kind of parameters for about $1000 from China, but don't tell Wee Donald.

Now they give them to beauticians. Such is progress, from the ivory tower of academia to the tatoo parlours of Kinshasa.

I think you should contact rpmclasers.com for a laboratory grade unit. I don't think Leif would allow that hot pink monstrosity in his lab. :-)

I doubt you watched the inauguration parade; but, I just wanted to mention that I have never seen so many bagpipes and kilts in one place before!

Exactly what I was thinking. I've got some old VHS tapes of the 80's Tattoo. Wonderful stuff.

Oh, yes, many more than that.

ETA Not in one group like your vid; but, probably twice as many pipes over all.

    You can count them at

    https://youtu.be/A6xRfnv0aP8

    2:10:16 NYPD Pipes and Drums
2:12:55 Nassau County Pipes and Drums
2:25:10 US Border Patrol Pipes and Drums
2:41:50 Palm Coast Florida Sheriff and Fire Dept. Pipes and Drums
2:52:44 The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes
3:13:33 Virginia Military Institute Band and Pipes

Other groups had one or two bagpipes but I only recorded the time of those who used 'Pipes' in their name.

ETA Thank g-d they did not play "Amazing Grace". But I was particularly moved by VMI's rendition of "Oh Shenandoah".
