Dr T had one wrapped around her throat one day. That was fun.

She was fortunate to survive such an encounter.

Wiki says the Pacific one not quite as bad. Perhaps the only known instance of something from Oz being +less+ poisonous.

Bluebottles sting like hell but mostly won’t kill you unless you’re allergic. I have an enduring memory from when I was about 14 of having to swim about 50 metres to the beach with a bluebottle wrapped around my right arm. Searing pain which still makes me shudder.

They are common on the Texas Gulf coast beaches as well, and I've been stung a couple of times as a child. They say urine eases the pain of the fresh stings.

According to the wiki: "No species of bird is known to actively inject or even produce venom, but some birds are known to be poisonous to touch or eat."

Toxic birds? Reminds me of ... nevermind

Their Atlantic relatives are bigger, more poisonous and can (extremely rarely) be fatal - something like 3 or 4 recorded fatalities in total IIRC. Blue bottles are smaller and less poisonous, with no reported fatalities.

None that I know of-but beware the Magpie in mating season-people have lost eyes.

Yes. However, size isn’t everything, to which those who have tangled with an Irukandji and lived to tell the tail can attest.

That's it. I'm never going near water again.

Patients have been reported as being so certain they are going to die, they beg their doctors to kill them to get it over with.

Hardly a discovery-the bloody idiots had a hopeless leader and lost the unloseable election by telling everyone they would change current superannuation arrangements so that my parents in law, for example, would be hundreds of thousands worse off. Just a disaster, especially for the environment, especially the Great Barrier Reef (google “Adani Coal Mine”)

Me too, but a lot of people just don’t get it. The right is not taking us back to the glory days-and they weren’t glory days.

Well we're next come October. Junior has blotted his copybook and that inevitably means the Tories again gawdelpus. Unless the Greens can stage a miracle. (The socialists have gone all wishy-washy again and aren't in it.)

Our Greens are too far to the left for this electorate. We need a true Centrist party with an environmental agenda.
