That one is an egregious example of some poor prof trying to show commercial relevance for some poor kid's M.Eng. thesis in order to fill in his next grant proposal.

The competing system would be the HTC Vive, $800, I believe, not Oculus.

Make one out of aerofoam and make a fortune, some of those aerofoams are extremely light and strong.

The biggest problem with all these things is not weight. It is that they include:
    1. Lenses to make the displays appear far away, not an inch from your face
    2. Light tight enclosure to keep out ambient light.
    3. Sweaty face

Because the sweaty face is enclosed in a small stifling volume to keep out light, the lenses fog over pretty quick.

Hydrophobic coatings on the lenses would stop fogging.

Well I was planning to extract the moisture and mix it with some orange juice so you could have a drink while viewing.
