    Then you have to cool it to keep it solid. The thermal radiation coming off a reactor must be considerable.

    Yeah, nuclear energy in general is a bad idea (except for fusion at a far distance captured with solar panels).

    I have no conceptual problems with aneutronic fusion, save that it does not yet exist.
    There's plenty of hydrogen and boron, and a vanishingly small radioactive residue.
