The 250-pound Flyer can fly up to 20 mph and flies between three and 10 feet above the water. It can stay in the air for 20 minutes at a time for about 7-mile range.

Ha. A multirotor ekranoplan. (I guess we can't call it exactly WIGE).Somebody had to do it.

Somehow, the idea of an electric PIGE craft doesn't seem to mix with.... water.

It probably can, but not in a way which conforms with the design parameters.

I'm assuming no headwind. A strong one might leave you in the drink.

Very useful for crossing small rivers less than seven miles wide.

But then what do you do with it when the battery's exhausted? That's a pretty heavy hunk of hardware to pack around.

You have to have a friend with a charger on the other side.

Just a note. Regional airports that are "downtown" are highly valuable land and have been under conversion to other things for fifty years as new airports have been constructed miles out, only to be buried in the advancing suburbs.

As opposed to what? Two dimensional cars that run in one dimensional tubes?

Often, the fastest route is the one that takes you farthest from your destination.

With some exceptions... San Diego just modernized and expanded Lindbergh Field (SAN) within a mile of the center of downtown.

The computer has had a stroke! Or maybe a heart attack, epileptic fit, diabetic collapse, drunken outburst. Or maybe it's digital road rage or some cute algorithm just waved, or it forgot its charger or...

A human driver would be much safer.

Flying cars won't work without fully automated ATC infrastructure in place to handle realistic volumes of traffic. Then there's the noise.

I think The Boring Company is the way to go.
