Camille Schrier, as Miss America 2020

A scientist from Virginia can officially add the title of Miss America 2020 to her resume.

Biochemist Camille Schrier took home the 99th Miss America crown on Thursday after stunning the audience with an on-stage science experiment.

The 24-year-old donned a lab coat on-stage as she conducted a demonstration of the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.

I do miss the bathing suits. :(

"Biochemist"? She's studying for a baccalaureate and wants to be a pharmacist.

I'd have been more impressed by the catalytic decomposition of TATP.

It’s what’s under the lab coat that counts?

Above is a scanning electron microscope image of the world’s smallest house, according to its creator Travis Casagrande of the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. It was assembled from pieces of silicon and the decorations were carved using a beam of gallium ions. To give you an idea of how small it is, the chimney opening is about 1 micron across. The house sits on the head of a tiny silicon snowman and the sculpture was made using a focused ion beam microscope that Casagrande normally uses to prepare even smaller samples for use in the centre’s powerful transmission electron microscopes.ref
