Sorry. Still no gain. Just magnification. And the bigger you make it the less light in each piece. Actual gain would be nice.

There must be a name for the logical fallacy : "really beneficial therefore true"

    True.
  1.
I keep using the wrong term. Yes, magnification.

Applying "really beneficial therefore true" here is beyond cynical.

Cynical school of philosophy founded by Antisthenes
a crusty type who hated students, emphasized self-knowledge, discipline, and restraint.
    .
    I can relate to that.

But what about the Beyond Cynical school of philosophy?

They overdosed on zinc in the bath

One man's overdose is another man's ballast. Fortunately you can't zinc too far in a bath.
  3.
But you can certainly overzinc it

    Farewell Arecibo

I guess we don't yet have adequate robotics to make the "safety" reason moot.

Just saw that--still have data from tapes I processed for JPL for radar astronomy of Ganymede and Callisto done using Arecibo in the early 70s. How sad. Maybe the Chinese will want to repair the the thing...
  5.
    That's really sad.

You mean, "they will have to have shouted". Shirley. Tenses are important where light years are concerned.

Unless they’ve developed the sub-Etheric Ultra Wave and expect that we’ve done likewise.

    Hmmm...

They did receive the message on ordinary EM waves from Arecibo. Their reply on sub-Etheric Ultra Wave implies that they expect us to have developed such technology in the space between the transmission and reception of the Ultra Wave, i.e. 46 years if UW is instantanteous. If we have not done so, that is evidence that we are just too dim to be interesting, and thus we have another explanation of the Fermi Paradox.

    I certainly think that’s a possibility

FYI the Chinese already built their own. It's much bigger.
