Posted By: BigOilRep* Obviously twice that in the USA, as that place loves paying more for it's medicine, presumably in the belief that the more they pay the more effective it is.

Showed my Medicare card; no money changed hands.

Speaking of old antennae, how's the cleanup at Arecibo going?

I don't understand why they did that whole cable support thing anyway. A simple tower, perhaps guy-wired or perhaps not, poking up from the centre of the dish, with maybe some adjustable tilt to aid aiming, would seem to be a much simpler engineering and architectural solution.

The big thing with the old cable-support system is that the degree of steering possible was very large.

I just noticed that Isaac Arthur has his Shkadov Thruster working backwards. The net acceleration will be away from the masking statite. Wikipedia makes the same error btw.

You guys probably haven't heard -- they had to move the Alpha Centauri system farther out. It's now 15 light years away.

    That's strange.

I sent them a comment. I asked if they were insane, except I used other words.

No more dark energy? At least that embarrassing 10140 factor would evaporate.
