I think I've mentioned this here before: my father died at that time (August 17th 2006) and it took me years to notice that my interest in Steorn came out of my mourning, or rather my attempts to find distractions at that time.

I owe that to Steorn and subsequently to you, specially the trappers and other skeptics and believers that started commenting on the original Steorn forum.

Also, this was never intended, but the moletrap today keeps me in touch with my parents' generation well beyond some of my moms friends, neighbors and relatives.

I thought of it as an early birthday present. The overwhelming insanity of the Steorn forum and the professional looking facade of their operation was fascinating. It took me a while to accept that it was a plain scam. It couldn't have been what they advertised, but it also looked too professional to be an ordinary scam.

Last year the truth came out: It was mainly a single investor ponzi scheme.

You have to admit that's innovative.

And 'The battery is dead' sounds much less hyperbolical in that context.

I am not sure how it's Ponzi. Ponzi schemes use new investor money to pay interest or even return principal to early investors. Steorn simply bought expensive scopes, costly venues and lots and lots of cheap ale.

Charles Ponzi did have a somewhat workable scheme in theory, which is what made it attractive to investors.

    Steorn, not so much.

Probably the opposite for investors. Their blood level of rue will likely remain too high.
