Apparently nobody in India bothered to consult with NASA or the European Space Agency or military institutions in the US and Europe. And apparently, their calculations were thoroughly fucked up and their garbage did not burn up in the atmosphere as intended but instead will endanger space travel essentially forever. And many of the fragments are too small to trace. Oh joy.

Who did the US, Russia and China consult before launching theirs?

Maybe the internet did not exist yet when they tried?

This is the n+17th explanation for Fermi's Paradox. Just before all civilisations are ready for interstellar travel they have a dust-up between their Space Forces and the resulting orbital debris traps them forever.

So they join the other great nations in littering space with Junk. I wonder who tops the list?

Perhaps we're been manipulated by THEM from THERE to build our own Wall to keep us in....
  2.
The vast majority of debris is Yank.

I wonder what Elon would charge to build an orbital vacuum cleaner?
  3.
That would be a neat trick.

Yeah, it would have to really suck.
  4.
So maybe it's the wrong metaphor. How about instead of the vacuum cleaner approach, we try the leaf blower?

That would have to really blow?
  5.
How about those who made the mess, clean it up?
  6.
Better would be for them to pay someone else to clean it up. After all they (India) have a lot of internal cleanup to do for themselves. Leaf blower metaphor: Individual lawnowners don't need leafblowers because they hire a crew that comes through the neighborhood every few weeks and blows everyone's leaves into a big pile and bags it up. The lawnowners pay some kind of tax or fee for the service and everybody is happy. So maybe Musk in his muskiness can figure out how to put up big finemesh netsatellites and heavy gas-filled blowsats and contract his spacesweeper system to the nation-states that are needing orbital paths swept free of debris for a fee.
