    Sort of like self-driving.

There's a product there which partially works. In GM's case - not so much.

VW is preparing to launch the ID.3, its first new electric car based on its MEB platform, and it says it plans to deliver 30,000 ID.3 cars “almost at once” and it claims that it will be cheaper than a gasoline car.

As a BEV should be; consider the complexity of an ICE drivetrain.

    Well, after subsidy.

Long term I do think it will sell well in Europe though - but it could be a terrible time coming up for car makers if we hit a global recession.

Reminds me of the days when Microsoft was so fucked. Because 68k, PPC, etc.. Good times.

If, which he isn't(spoiler), Musk was the St. Jesus he is in some mind's eyes, he would sell open source Teslas. He does not.

This would be a great time for the large automakers to roll out their EVs with spectacular pricing. No need to deal with those virus-ridden gas stations--just charge your EV up at home.

This would also punch a hole in DJT's "more oil" plans.

Maybe, however new car sales are about to drop like a stone and fuel prices are dropping. Many people will cling onto their gas guzzlers for the time being I reckon.

The charge at home marketing thing could be a goer though.

Could be. Then when a government wants everybody to stay home all they have to do is turn off the grid.
Oh wait... we all have smart meters now don't we. So the restrictions can be much finer-grained than that. But there are software problems: Will it be a radio button or a check box, to turn off the electricity to any given home?
