    Since it would have a refractive index of around 1012 you'd have real problems with antireflection coatings. Most likely you'd never get any light into it.

    And then there's the field of view issue...

    BTW does anyone remember who wrote those stories? I've been trying to find them again for years.

    The thing that made me wonder is even with glass with those magic properties, miniscule variations in thickness would cause issues with the image.
