Missing stars could point to alien civilizations, scientists say
Astronomers compare old views of the sky with what we see today and find that at least 100 stars appear to have vanished, or were perhaps covered up. https://www.cnet.com/news/missing-stars-could-point-to-alien-civilizations-scientists-say/

Long-Standing Antimatter Mystery May Be Solved by Discovery of Nearby Pulsar’s Gamma-Ray ‘Halo’.

Whereas the central antimatter mystery - that there is an asymmetry of normal matter over antimatter in the universe - remains unsolved.

It's a big place. Just because one little room is done and dusted... doesn't mean there isn't some other yet to be explored region where things are remarkably different.

And that's just this house. When you are speaking about an entire Universe, most of which we will never be able to see or know anything about except by analogy, extension and conjecture.... it gets even more complicated.

You are making handwaving into an art form. It needs a name.

I think that's the opposite of handwaving, which also needs a name. Handwaving is making some general argument on the general basis that everything is generally the same as it generally is here.

Generally speaking I think that is generally an incorrect description

You'll have to be more specific.

    Certainly not!

In a nearby galaxy, a fast radio burst unravels more questions than answers.

"Nearby" and "galaxy" don't belong in the same sentence, because galaxies aren't.

I figured out something today. We have heard conjectures bandied about that our miserable little Terra may not be the most ideal abode for LAWKI. I reject this and claim that Terra is indeed the perfect place, being the most ideal planet possible for us and our kind of life.

The reasoning being thuslike: Say there were some other, more ideal planet for life. By simple extrapolation to the huge number of planets there are, there must be many many such much more ideal planets for life. Therefore Terra must be a really miserable statistical outlier since conditions are so relatively shitty here. Yet... we ourselves do not find ourselves on one of those bazillion better planets... we are here on Terra, no matter what anyone conjectures. Statistically it is extremely improbable for the only demonstrated intelligent technological species in the visible universe to be found on a non-ideal planet _if_ there are so many ideal ones out there. Therefore by reductio ad absurdum and the Laws of Large Numbers, there are not any other more ideal planets for life after all and this miserable dirtball is the best we can hope for.

So I think it behooves us to take better care of it, if it's not already too late.

The non-sentient ones are fond of it too.
