    The article says
Construction involves the installation of 256 Tesla Megapack battery units on 33 concrete slabs. The Megapack, which was launched by the company last year and is being made at the Tesla Gigafactory1 in Nevada, can store up to 3 MWh of electricity per unit.
which implies 768 Mwhr of energy storage.

That's not much in the universe of California energy consumption. Probably better served with a natural gas "peaker" installation. This is probably a better story.

PG&E Moss Landing was once the state's largest generating plant. Sold to Duke in 1998 and scaled back in 2017 due to a "glut in the wholesale energy market. Golly, if that's the case, perhaps Oregon should stop sending power from Bonneville down to California.

Probably should read "retail energy prices weren't high enough to satisfy the operators of the plant".

Nor is it intended to be. It is "leveling" tek.

The peaks in the ripple of consumption must be either met or shed. Building generation facilities to meet those peaks results in an expenditure of capital which is needed only part time; thus, the value of non-generating leveling tek.

Well, the old Jungner nickel-iron battery dates back more than 100 years.

What's the energy density of the the Form Battery? I couldn't find a specific mention of it.

Not could I but it is not as crucial as a mobile battery.

The basic economics and sustainability is.

Like compressed air storage but with a change of state.
