Posted By: alsetalokinThis will stimulate the economy incredibly, take guns, especially gangsta guns, off the street, and give the police plenty of firepower which is what they want.
Sure, the gangsta will sell their guns. Face palm.

I disagree on the primers. Gunpowder (or similar) will ignite if pinch impacted. Remember playing with a cap gun as a kid??

I tend to agree with Al on this. Sure, it's easy to knock up improvised percussion caps or some mixture you can put in a recycled primer which will sort of work, 2 times out of 3. Fine for a 'zip' gun or even a revolver I suppose. Not so much in a mag fed semi auto. You'll spend a lot of time clearing jams and cleaning crap out of the worky bits.

Well... there would have to be some sort of QC

Wrong, I hunt with my guns and I like to target shoot occasionally. Also my sidearm makes a good paperweight. Keeps the papers from blowing away when I use my floor fan.

Posted By: AngusWhich all avoids the actual issue - that the easy legal availability of weapons, compounded with a truly morbid kind of firearms machismo, makes for the easy illegal availability - wrong place, wrong gun, etc. And that is not only a USA problem but has become one in Canada and Mexico (though I don't know if government-smuggled weapons should actually be considered illegal.) So US conceptions of personal freedom are killing people who have no say in the matter, as well as the eight times more USans than should be getting killed in a country with such a standard of living.
Blaming the gun. Switzerland is a true gun culture that does not have the drug culture or the problems of the US. Eventually those drug problems will expand to Canada and you will find that all those gun laws will protect no one.

I disagree strongly that the Swiss have anything like the US gun culture. It's quite true that the Swiss can own guns. so can Canadians.

What makes you think our social problems with drugs are any different from the USA? We have a very comparable society.

Posted By: ping1400Mass shooters generally don't expect to survive. They don't care at all about others with conceiled weapons.

Well, I think there are two distinct types. One type is as you suggest; there is even the term "suicide by cop" to describe that expected or perhaps desired outcome. Others... not so much. I don't think Brevik, for example, expected to go out in a blaze of glory, and neither did this Holmes nutcase. They enter a place where there is no perceived danger, they do their damage, and retire to another safe location where they can be apprehended or can surrender non-violently, because they aren't done making their statements.
I think the latter type is becoming more prevalent lately. So we are seeing the psychopathology of the perps changing. Whereas the first type is going to be the angry, depressed alcoholic or other drug abuser, set off by a particular traceable incident, the second type is the paranoid schizophrenic, the slow simmerer with a political or religious (same difference) agenda and a long thought out plan. This second type won't be seeking an immediate death along with his (invariably his) victims.

WHat you see prevalent lately is the media covrage extending exclusively to mass shooting.

There has been a lowering of the murder rate, but it is still enormous comapred to other western country with similar economics. 14000 murder per year at least. 9000 per gun. Up to 2006. I have no idea for the last years. But a guy killing 12 persons is only a statistical anomally. The 8988 other guy aren#t killing in mass and they aren't affraid of other people carrying conceal.

I bet it's a rather pathetic, transparent and futile attempt to try to use something absurdly large and potent in order to compensate for something absurdly small and impotent...

Hot on the heels of the #hashtag#omnishambles- initially descriptive of the UK governments performance, but now more generally used for pervasive incompetence, - we have#romneyshambles

    Hehehe.

Mitt Romney's insult-the-world tour excels in picking on the Palestinians

Posted By: tinker@Al. I don't think the UK is any better. We have three significant political parties, who used to represent the political left, the centre and the right. Now 'New Labour' formerly the socialist left - has moved so far to the right that their policies match the governing 'Conservative' right-wing ruling coalition's almost exactly. Any real differences are mostly just rhetoric.

As for the Liberals - they are truly the squeezed middle. Desperate to hang onto the tidbits they gain by being part of the ruling coalition they have abandoned all of their pre-election promises in return for the maple syrup of government.

A bunch of unimaginative and incompetent lying toerags, the lot of them.

Tidbits? Gone all American on us?

I've said this befor, and no doubt will again, and I know correlation is not causation, but the US having such fucking lame gun laws, and the US having such a massive death rate by fire arm compared to the civilised world ARE related.

You can sit and argue about "not putting the genie back in the box" , and " the god given right to bare arms" all you like... It is self delusion, there is ( I believe ) not one person NOT from the USA on Moletrap, and among my personal acquaintance circle who does not look in wonder at the USA'ns and their attitude to guns.

The same sort of "Wonder" as most of us look at Newseditor and his attitude to woo...
