McCulloch seems to take for granted that the heat increases in a computer system when information is deleted. He offers no citation. Has anyone on the list heard of such, ie a proven mass equivalent for information a la relativity?

Information, at least as storage in binary representation is concerned, is pretty lightweight.

Some people cant even distinguish information from data from knowledge from weight or heat.

A random rearrangement of a (practically) randomized sequence of zeroes and ones should not, by its own existence, matter too much.

In other words: reading can cause obesity; digital storage can not.

Didn't we do this already? An information storage system like a hard drive has the same number of bits of information in it whether it is full of porn, or is completely zeroed out. The terabyte of zeros could be the key to a vault somewhere or it could just be a bunch of zeros. Some external information must be supplied to tell the difference. The mass is the same because information is abstract. Only differences that make a difference matter, and that requires a system that can assign, perceive and even respond to... information.

(I used to be able to generate paragraphs like that almost ad infinitum. It all looks like so much bs to me now.)

    OK, fine, sure.

We need to find the Universal Codec, that can decode that terabyte of zeros back into movies. Surely in the information universe, it exists.

If you find it, I have the public key. But then, so does everybody.

I think it's all based on this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landauer%27s_principle

I believe it's digital racism. Zeros matter too.

Yeah... but once you press the button labled: 'collapse superstition', almost everything is gone. Including your money.
  1.
    money as superstition

I like that. It seems very apt. Now that currency is mostly virtual it makes particular sense. It works because we believe it will work, not because of any inherent quality, and it could stop working at any time (knock on wood), since the reality is only thinly related to our beliefs about it.

    Explained:

"When power flows into the EmDrive," he continued, "the engine warms up. This also causes the fastening elements on the scale to warp, causing the scale to move to a new zero point. We were able to prevent that in an improved structure. Our measurements refute all EmDrive claims by at least three orders of magnitude.”
