It's not difficult to turn cellolose plant material into oily vapour and fractionate it to get fuel oil. A little Zeolite helps. The real trick is controlling the temperature of every part of a poorly conductive wodge of biomass to avoid the 400C region that produces a lot of dioxin type materials.

Now if you could find a way to predict them, we could line there route with piezoelectric generators and get loads of energy, pity the people will be dead and unable to use it.

Photosynthesis is too inefficient to be an industrial energy source.
  4.
Where would the oil industry be if there had been no photosynthesis?

If you have to integrate over a few million years for five minutes worth it's hardly sustainable is it.
