Eighty year old grandmas can't wait to use those, especially when it rains.

Well powerful mobility scooters then, covered and self driving of course, why move extra half tons of metal if the only vehicles allowed in towns are light weight covered tricycles?

    Archimoto

Classified as "motorcycle", so bypasses a lot of the NTSA tests for cars. I dunno. Still weighs more than half a ton and costs $12K.

And by a cleverness these things are classified as boats.

From what I see, I'd classify them as CGI.

True. That is one of many modern efforts to revive them as fast ferries. But the WIG craft is definitely real

They interest me because they might find a real niche around the Salish Sea, wbich already has the world's largest concentration of float-plane airlines.

The Koreans seem to be taking WIG craft quite seriously .

I have also come across German and Australian efforts.
  2.
I don't get it. How is a WIG differently capable or better than an actual flying boat aeroplane?

    For example a Lake Amphibian?

    Two things:

    1. Flying in ground effect requires less engine and less fuel than flying free.
    2. As I noted earlier, some clever dick managed to establish that WIGE craft are boats, not aircraft, so the pilot licencing requirements and vehicle certificatiln issues are less expensive.
  3.
It always sounds better in French ... Amphibien. Hor Hor Hor.
