There was the stoner model. The very slow Lada Joy.

That's because they'll tart them up with useless gimmicks such as computer-controlled ear warmers. Electronics=cheap; iron=expensive. I've yet to use the radio or CD player in my car in the decade that I've owned it.

The automobile hasn't progressed much in terms of basic principles and owes much of its "progress" to better roads, not vehicles. Your brand-new Tesla or Lambo couldn't navigate the roads that the Model T traversed.

That T-bucket got 21-25 mpg on some really dreadful fuel. It could burn kerosene in a pinch.

But those kerosene ear warmers can be tricky in a breeze...

It was not like you got there fast.
If there was a road and enough gas stations along the way you got there if the car did not break down.
If you needed to get there for sure you rode va horse or an oxen.

    ox
I never heard of anybody riding one. Faster to walk.
My granddad used to tell of the hard winter when one of his horses died and he had to hitch an ox with the other one. He said it was the damndest team he ever drove. I could never believe it, but it was a good story.

One of my uncles came to BC from Sasksatchawan inthe early 1930's because the depression cost them the farm.
They came in a congestoga wagon towed by oxen and had some extra stock that they swapped out to give the animals a rest. My dad came with them so I got to hear the story of the treck from him.
They rode the extra oxen when they needed to.

Absent the horse and oxen, that could describe some of our traffic-choked cities.
