Posted By: Andrew PalfreymanYeah well - what can I say? I can surf Google but I can't ping Google either, on either of my machines.

    C:\>pingwww.google.com[br<]/>
    Pinging[/br<]
www.google.com[74.125.239.51] with 32 bytes of data:

    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.

    Ping statistics for 74.125.239.51:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

    Does this work:

    ftp://apollo.ssl.berkeley.edu.nyud.net:8080/pub/cinema/04.%20Science/TTL%20Cookbook_0672210355.pdf

    It doesnt.

Actually, that one worked straight off the browser. Thanks for the help all. But the file is reported damaged. No dice.

Some firewalls prohibit "active" ftp transfers. (Mine does).

After ftp connect, try issuing the "passive" command (it may vary with the ftp client that you're using. Try using the client's HELP command to figure out what it is if "passive" doesn't do the trick).

And don't forget to issue the "BINARY" command before you start transferring.

I got the whole thing without much difficulty through Firefox. It's a classic but pretty irrelevant these days. Don Lancaster did come up with a lot of creative ideas.

Maybe he is one of those lucky people whose internet is redirected to NSA servers.

Did you know that wget was played by a windows powershell script in the movie, the social network? I shit you not even though I just completely made that up.

I don't watch many movies, so I'm not familiar with that one--or, for that matter, movies produced in the last decade. Seen too many, I guess--for me, most are just a yawning experience. Same with TeeVee sitcoms--a huge waste of time.

The same could be said for the sex-for-hire industry, drug-smuggling or managing a hedge fund, no ?
