The United States should invest in robots. Mark Cuban, the internet and sports entrepreneur (and Trump nemesis), recently called on the president to offer $100 billion in funding for robotics. Frank Tobe, the publisher and editor of a trade magazine called The Robot Report, said government investment was imperative.

“We better do something, or we’re going to be behind the gun,” he said. “We should be in the robot business, not just users of foreign robots.”

Trump's reply: "Make those robots coal-powered and you've got a deal!"

OK, so the robots are now digging their own coal...am I missing something?

That's like renting your robot labour from the state. When robots achieve sentience we can avoid the moral issue of "ownership" by declaring all robots to be wards of the state on this precedent. Neat.
