What with hyperloops replacing trains and planes and self-driving cars being required on all roads, I may have to buy a horse!

Quite frankly, I think that Musk and his Boring company are missing the boat.

From the days back when engineering was thought interesting enough to make movies about.

One of the drivers of Hyperloop originally was to avoid continuous maglev, to keep cost down. That's no longer the case. I think they've settled on a halfway house.

The 'heartland hyperloop': Firm behind Elon Musk's radical travel system says $10bn Missouri route could be the first in America.

Now they are going to turn the tunnel into a racetrack for midget racers.

    Musk unveils Boring tunnel

50 MPH with training wheels over 1.14 miles.

    Yeah, that's a real winner...

You know he's really wanting to develop a hypervelocity skateboard.

Ackshully, you're right, Al. The cars will travel on a special trolley:

Wait until he unveils the Tesla Trebuchet. Forget about tunnels and training wheels. Just drive up the onramp into the launch bucket, trim your Tesla Model Q for ballistic flight, and press that big red button on your sumatuponu teslapp to begin the launch sequence.

Ignore the thrumming and crumpling and creaking noises as the big rubber bands are wound up. After the relatively mild launch acceleration in the articulated two-stage atlatl-style trebuchet arms, you'll enjoy the sensation of free fall during the ballistic arc over miles of flyover country, finally gliding down to your destination's landing ramp.
  5.
Any system designer worth his salt knows about the optimisation of buffer sizes and datarates. Here, Musk proposes very high speed track combined with an entry/exit system that requires the vehicle to be brought to a complete halt. It's like comparing traffic lights to roundabouts, except far, far worse.

Using a lift system yeah, so either build a ramp to accelerate on, or prespin the wheels extremely fast and drop it in a calculated gap, the driver and passenger should hopefully regain consciousness before their destination.

Perhaps the Mexican mafia could hire them to set up a subway tunnel between Juarez and downtown El Paso...
