Impersonating James Bond after that takes some... (or was it the other way around?)

Are there really folks who don't consider the Bond films as comedy?

Pantomime, I think. Not the same.

I thought every 007 Bond film I saw was funny. Pure escapist comedy to me. Maybe I lack the right attitude.

This has been the topic of some conversation here today. The prevailing opinion seems to be that the earlier Bond films were "tongue in cheek". The contemporary ones are boringly serious (or have I got that the wrong way around?)

I'd agree with your way round. The reliably ever-repeated tropes make me think of pantomime, though. "Look behind you, look behind you" the children cry.

I quit watching 007 movies sometime around "Live and Let Die".

That might explain it. Moore was no Connery.

I thought Brosnan did a fair job of bringing back the whimsy.

    John Sessions.

Amazingly gifted actor who seemed to pop up on BBC Radio drama's with unrelenting frequency, much to my delight.

He was pretty ill toward the end. I admire him for keeping up the game in spite of his cancer.
