Andrew this is well worth watching even though it seems to be science fiction, I so wish it could become true.

Build one and fly it, then post the video. I'll be more impressed than if I were looking at a bunch of CGI woo.

Well Todd, your physics sucks large greasy rocks. My advice - take up hairdressing.

It seems to me that we're going about this "space colonization" thing all wrong.

Humans are fragile blobs, really not suited to space travel. A good burst of gammas will kill one. Humans have a limited working life and when they experience equipment failures, they tend not to do well.

So why not acknowledge the inevitable--that metal is going to replace flesh-- and work harder on sending machinery to explore? It's worked well in the past. If there's a crying need to be off-world, I suppose we could set up a lunar colony--it's more realistic than trying to send people to Mars.

To avoid extinction we need life off earth, not necessary on planets or moons.

What extinction? We won't be extinct; just a lower form of life in the long run. If you're really worried about our biological makeup, launch some DNA aboard an interstellar probe and hope that someone finds it.

I'm still not convinced about unsupported human existence off-planet or off-moon. Show me where Biodone has ever shown any signs of working.

We cannot avoid extinction. And why would we think it a good thing anyway?. Suppose Homo Neanderthalensis had had such ideas! When something better adapted comes along, we'll be gone.
