In attacking a K2 civilisation, I'd suggest going to the core of their power, and attempting to destroy their sun. This could be done by seeding with a black hole, which quickly poisons and consumes the star. With their primary energy source gone, they would be far more vulnerable in a relatively short time. It's also an efficient strategy, not requiring massive amounts of troops and materiel to execute.

Dropping down to the next level of tactical detail, consider a cloud of Kugelblitzer set on a course for the target, self-propelled by asymmetric Hawking radiation. These will enter the system at high speed and will converge, or will have converged, into one single more massive black hole - large enough to be ready for immediate sun consumption as soon as it arrives. Hard to detect, and harder to deflect, and impossible to destroy, the Black Hole Gun makes a fearsome weapon.

We can't approve of weapons research on the 'trap.

Don't you have anything useful to do?

No, those black hole ideas won't work. What you need is a huge dark cloud of nanographene dust, injected into the entire star system. This will not only block the light output of the star but it will make nagivation and communistication impossible. Deprived of their internests and domestic power for herb growth they will simply extinct themselves out of boredom. Then you just vacuum up the dust with your General Products StarVac, and compress it into bricks for easy storage in anticipation of the next spacecrime.

Plock them in a stasis field, a somewhat hugely one.
