    Shooting CO₂ into the atmosphere just gets you CO₂.

    And it stays around for 100 years or so, methane is around 10 years. Water vapour is again a much more powerful greenhouse gas (so stop boiling those kettles) but the cycle time is measured in days.

    Hmmm. The thing about breathable atmospheres is that they are not stable, or rather they are metastable, being maintained by complex feedback systems generally involving that damned chemical infection called "life", as well as energy flows far from equilibrium.
