Posted By: alsetalokinEven if there is a global thermonuclear war with 4 years of nuclear winter, or even a midsized asteroid impact... the Earth will still be easier and more rewarding to colonize than Mars.

Indeed, it will at the very least have the gravity we are adapted for. And a breathable atmosphere. And water. And food sources.

It would be a pretty nice place, but for all the riff-raff. Instead of terraforming Mars, we could marsform certain parts of Terra instead.

The thing is...those areas are still significantly more habitable than mars.

Mankind needs air, water, food and shelter.

Even colonising the oceans would be easier then colonising Mars.

Venus might be as well, despite its high temperature and pressure.

But if an asteroid strikes our home, you'd better be very deep under the ocean. I think the reason we don't see many aliens is they get destroyed before they leave the nest.

That time travel idea using some sort of laser loop (way beyond my pay grade) I posted on the Mole would of course mean faster than light communication, you send an entangled loop off on even a slow chemical rocket taking at least 300,000 years to arrive at it's destination star and a year later it tells you it has found a perfect Goldilocks planet.

Of course messages from the future would have told you that anyway.

With two way communication to the future, the upstream intelligences could get you to build some human like robots so that their minds could uplifted into them.

They could explore their past and maybe bump off one of their forebears to see what happens.

Time loops could explain the Fermi paradox.

Some foreign scientist reckons that it should be possible to communicate with the future using a special laser loop, but you can only communicate with the past if they had the special time loop as well.

All those lottery wins and market billions you could get.

    Fat chance.

All those 'amazing discoveries' that bloke with the time loop 'invents'.
