Even if that was not expressed particularly well. I tried.

Wenn man sich Schleifpapier auf die Klaviatur klebt, könnte man sich ja theoretisch den wöchentlichen Besuch im Nagelstudio sparen.

    OTOH...

I just had a great idea. Make all elected positions single-term. No re-elections of incumbents allowed. Maybe adjust lengths of some terms, like Representatives could be 4 years, but basically all elected officials should serve only one term.

This would eliminate a lot of problems with our political system.

Maybe we could even do like some ancient Central American civilizations did, and execute the old king when a new one is elected.

I think you misunderstand this royalty thing.

You're right, kings aren't elected. So ... when the new king buys his seat on the throne, _then_ the old one is toast(ed)?

The Irish are supposed to have done that too - whoever the Irish were at that time. But the trick was that the Queen was the actual ruler. The King was her toyboy and she got a new one every year.

    Not true at all.

In fact elective monarchy is an attractive idea. Or was until Trump.

In a century or so we'll be able to engineer tardigrades the size of a double decker bus. So there's a thought.

That's not a thought. It barely qualifies as a frisson.

We shall have to update our old folk songs. Nobody loans out their old grey mare anymore to go to Widecombe Fair. But what shall we do with a broken down axionic subspace drive in order to frighten the kids?
